This obituary is administered by:
Herman J.E. GrizzleCocoaHerman J.E. Grizzle, 91, passed away on February 16, 2017 at Viera Manor Assisted Living Facility in the Town of Viera, Melbourne, FL.  He was born on March 7, 1925 in Buford, Georgia to parents Frank and Ruby Grizzle. He was preceded in death (2014) by his loving wife, Willie Mae Lathem; his sister, Helen Waldron, Atlanta, and his brother Frank Jr, Buford, Georgia.  Herman is survived by his two children Raymond (Teri) Grizzle and Dixie (Michael) Savard; brother Louie (Phyllis) Grizzle, Buford, Ga; four grandchildren: Shelley Grizzle-Freeman, Amy Van Meter, Brandon and Cameron Savard, and two great-grandsons Christopher Freeman Jr and Isaac Van Meter, along with many nieces and nephews.Herman was a Seaman in the United States Coast Guard, serving in World War II.  The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter he was assigned to was an 83-foot vessel with a crew of 14 men and he spent 22 months on it until the end of the war, working his way up to earning $66 per month in 1946.  After his service, Herman (and Willie Mae) worked in the cotton mill in Chicopee, Georgia until 1952 when they moved to Cocoa, Florida and he worked as a civilian firefighter at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. He was a member of First Baptist Church Merritt Island, Florida for over 65 years, and served in various ministries throughout the years.  His hobbies included fishing, quail hunting, coin collecting, and stamp collecting. Before moving to Viera Manor in 2015, Herman and Willie Mae had resided in the same house in Cocoa since moving there from Georgia in 1952. They returned frequently over the years to visit relatives in north Georgia, where Herman enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers. The Grizzle house on Cocoa Place was for many years a frequent visiting place for Dixie's and Raymond's friends, neighborhood kids, and other friends of the family. And after his retirement, Herman more than likely would have greeted each visitor or passerby with a smile and a wave as he sat in his chair on the front porch. The family held a private graveside service for Herman on Monday, February 20th at Brevard Memorial Park, Cocoa, Florida.
