Herbert Lester JenningsVentura, CAHerbert Lester Jennings, age 83, passed away Sunday, June 25 at his home in Ventura, CA. He was lovingly cared for by his family and medically attended to by Hospice. Herb was born on August 6, 1933 and grew up in Atwater, CA. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1951 and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served overseas in Europe. After his Honorary Discharge he married the love of his life, Angela, in 1955. He was hired as a draftsman for Elevator Maintenance Company Limited in Los Angeles, CA. This began a lifelong career in the elevator industry as he became an elevator mechanic and then established his own company, H.L. Jennings, Inc. Herb then became an elevator inspector for the State of California and retired at the age of 72. He was very well respected in the elevator industry and his love of the trade was passed on to his sons who are both career elevator men. He was a member of the Ventura Elks lodge and hobbies during his life included woodworking and golf.Family was very important to Herb. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angela; his sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Bill Loud of Mercer Island, WA; his brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Pam Jennings of Laguna Woods, CA; his sister, Barbara Tschudin of Fallbrook, CA; his 3 children: Wendy (William), Greg (Maria) and David (Melanie); his cousin Carole and cousin by marriage Benetta; his 6 grandchildren: Kevin (Jill), Brian (Takara), Eric (Cristie), Melissa (Jason), Erin and Victoria; his nieces Linda (John), Carolyn (Mark) and Julie (Eric) and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Marian Jennings; his brother-in-law, Dick Tschudin (Barbara) and his cousin Cliff (Benetta).We celebrate his life as an amazing and loving husband, brother, father and friend. We will miss his jokes and silly lines, his smile, his caring counsel and his genuine heart. Herb was not only a gentleman-he was a gentle man. He will be missed greatly but we are comforted knowing he is with the Lord. As he entered the eternal elevator we know the operator said, "Going Up!"A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, July 16 at 1:00pm in the Ventura Marina Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 1215 Anchors Way Drive, Ventura, CA 93001.
