Helen Kathleen OlsenSt GeorgeHelen Kathleen (Mathe) Olsen, a 3 time breast cancer survivor, passed away on Weds. March 8th, 2017 at 7:50 am in St George, Utah. She was born on March 19, 1944 in Vasarosnameny, Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg, Hungary. She escaped communist Hungary then immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 where her family settled in Youngstown, Ohio. Helen joined the United States Navy in 1965 where she met and ultimately wed her husband of almost 50 years, Bjarne Olsen. Helen and Bjarne raised their family in San Diego, Ca where she attended and graduated San Diego State University with honors. The Olsen family enjoyed camping and traveling the Western United States during those years. Helen is survived by her loving husband, her two children, Bjarne Olsen and Kimberley Arnold and her grandson, Blake Arnold.Anyone who knew Helen will remember her passion for creating beautiful stained glass pieces and her love of traveling. Helen and Bjarne recently enjoyed a 28 day cruise throughout the South Pacific and were planning their next adventure. Helen was very health conscious and loved her daily walks throughout the community with her close friend and long time neighbor, Linda Jones.A memorial service is tentatively planned for late Summer 2017 in San Diego, CA.
