Celebrating the Extraordinary Life of Hattie Pearl Lindsey

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her remarkable life that we announce the passing of Hattie Pearl Lindsey, who left this world peacefully on November 22, 2024, in Castro Valley, California, at the age of 93. Born on November 3, 1931, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Frank Brown and Alice Thompson, Hattie was a vibrant and spirited soul who embraced life to its fullest.

Hattie was a proud graduate of Richmond High School, Class of 1949. She began her career at Macy's Department Store, where her charisma and dedication left an indelible mark on coworkers and customers alike. Over nearly four decades, she worked her way up to a respected supervisory role, fostering lifelong friendships along the way.

In 1977, Hattie met the love of her life, Robert Gardley, and together they shared nearly 50 years of love, laughter, and adventure. Though they never married, they united their families in a bond of mutual love and respect. Hattie’s sons, Hiram Raymond Lindsey and George Lindsey Jr., from her previous marriage to the late George Lindsey Sr., were the pride of her life. She also warmly embraced Robert's son, Robert Gardley Jr., as part of her family.

Hattie’s zest for life was contagious. Known for her quick wit and no-nonsense attitude, she could light up a room with her laughter and charm. Whether hosting legendary BBQs, schooling her opponents in Bid Whist and dominoes, or passionately cheering for her beloved San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors, Hattie was the life of every gathering. Her hobbies were as diverse as her personality, from crocheting and solving puzzles to mastering “online shopping” before the internet was even a thing.

Hattie Pearl was a giver at heart, a caretaker who selflessly attended to the needs of others. She was a rock for her family and friends, always ready with a helping hand, a home-cooked meal, or a warm hug.

Hattie was predeceased by her beloved sons, Hiram and George Jr., and her older sister, Love Joy Ford, as well as her nephew, Bomani Gatewood. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Drennon Lindsey and Paris Lindsey, and great-grandchildren, Dominique and Jordan, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her devoted younger sister, Anna Goodwin, and a host of loving nieces and nephews, including Charisse, Toni, Omara, and Jamil, who will carry on her legacy.

Hattie and Robert’s love story was filled with unforgettable adventures, from their annual trips to Maui, Hawaii, to a joyful retirement in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they created a lifetime of memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew them.

Hattie Pearl Lindsey will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and a source of boundless joy. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor her extraordinary legacy.

May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.
