Harris Arnold PerkinsGRANVILLE: Harris Arnold Perkins, 78 formerly of Zanesville, passed away Saturday July 27, 2013 at The James Cancer Center following a courageous fight to defeat mesothelioma.He was born on June 20, 1935 the first son of the late Harris and Eleanor Perkins. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Schob on July 29, 1953. Before retiring in 2005 from State Farm Insurance, he worked in the trucking industry with Suburban Motor Freight and CW Transport.Harris is survived by his wife Lois; three children, daughter Kathy (Jim) Cooper, son Jeff Perkins, and son Terry (Donna) Perkins, 12 grandchildren, Jobie, Juris, Jonah, Zac, Tyler, Cody, Aaron, Corey, Jonni, Zac, Doug, Brittany; and two great-granddaughters; he is also survived by a brother, Jack (Judy) Perkins; two sisters, Phyllis (Dick) Stoneburner, and Linda Bramlish.He enjoyed nature, feeding the bluebirds and working in his yard, but his most valued role was "pap-pa". "Pap-pa" Perkins was a man of small stature but enormous character. His children and grandchildren could count on his presence and support at every event, every birthday celebration and for every challenge or disappointment in their life. He was their hero.Harris will be remembered as a gentle soul, kind, loving, loyal, humble, and ornery too. His life was an example of unconditional love leaving an impression on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.The family will receive guests at the William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage on Monday July 29 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with funeral services on Tuesday July 30th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joy French officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.Memorial contributions may be made to The James Cancer Research Center.
