Dr. Guy Edward Merrill Jr.Sept. 28, 1921 - Sept. 24, 2015RICHMOND, Utah - Dr. Guy Edward Merrill Jr, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on September 24, 2015, at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital where he was battling a severe case of pneumonia. Dr. Merrill was born on September 28, 1921, in the Cache Valley Hospital to Guy Edward Merrill Sr. and Maude Mary Clarke. "Ed" grew up in Richmond and graduated from North Cache High School then attended Utah State University where he majored in pre-med. He completed his schooling at the University of Kansas City, School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Missouri, earning his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He married Joy Erickson in the Logan LDS Temple on December 30, 1943. After accepting a commission in the United States Navy, Ed and Joy moved several times, living in Kansas City, MO, San Diego, CA, Denver, CO, and San Francisco, CA, as he supported assignments with the Navy, the Air Force and the Army. After completing his military obligations, Ed and Joy returned to Richmond to begin their Dental career. Ed supported his community as a member of the American Legion, the Lions Club and a member of the City Council. He was active with the local and National Republican Party and a member of the National Dental Association. He loved the outdoors and sporting activities and enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and golf.Following retirement from his dental practice in 1988, he and Joy enjoyed the RV life and traveled as much as possible, spending several years meeting friends in Yuma, Arizona. Ed is survived by his children, Vicki (Jim), Reese (Elizabeth) and Lorrie (Kirk). He has five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at Noon in the Richmond Second Ward Chapel, 150 S. 100 East., Richmond, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Military rites and interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
