Glenn SimsAbileneThomas Glenn Sims, 71, of Abilene, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will follow. Arrangements under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.Glenn was born on Nov. 28, 1945, in San Angelo to Thomas Fewell Sims and Clara Pauline Glenn Sims of Bronte, Texas. He loved football and excelled in track and went to state in multiple track events. He graduated from Bronte High School in 1964 and then graduated from Baylor University with his Bachelors of Business Administration in 1968. He loved watching sports especially his Baylor Bears.He has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Bronte, Southland Baptist Church in San Angelo and a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.Upon graduation from Baylor, he worked as a Sales Representative for Texaco Oil Company in Waco. He married Lola Lavonne Eggen on April 19, 1969. In 1972, the couple moved to Bronte where Glenn worked with his father at Sims Food Store. They moved to San Angelo in 1979, where Glenn was the owner/operator of Roadrunner Convenience Store. In 1995, they moved to Abilene where Glenn opened Smoker's Discount. Since 1972, he was self-employed and operated several businesses in San Angelo and Abilene.He was preceeded in death by his mother and father, Pauline and T.F. Sims; brother-in-law Barry Lloyd Cody; and nephew Troy Richard Cody.Survivors include his wife, Lavonne Sims; two sons, Dr. Shaughn Thomas Sims and wife Amy and two sons Griffin Thomas and Drake Lee of Ballinger, Texas and Lance Christian Sims and children Trinity Lee and Caden Christian of Abilene.He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors as well as running his businesses. He was an avid supporter of the Gideon's and buying Bibles for distribution as well as donating supplies to the Mission in Abilene. He loved to travel and spend time with family and friends especially his grandchildren. He loved to have fun, always having a joke to tell and enjoyed taking the kids and his nephews to amusement and water parks.Even though he struggled with Parkinson for the last 10 years, he never stopped enjoying spending time with family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. David Randell for going above and beyond with his outstanding care and sympathy.
