Retired university professor Glen W Clark, 78, passed away March 12, 2010, at his home surrounded by family. He had struggled with heart disease, Parkinson's, and diabetes. Glen was born on April 17, 1931 in Newdale, Idaho to Ray and Ruth Clark. He was the third of eight children. He enjoyed the outdoors and some of his hobbies were hunting and fishing, landscaping, photography, and raising horses. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school and college and set many records that may still stand to this day. He graduated from Sugar-Salem high school in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Mortensen on September 19, 1951, in the Salt Lake City temple. They are active lifelong members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Glen enlisted in the Navy (1951-1954) and served honorably as a corpsman in the Korean War. He graduated from Ricks College, Rexburg Idaho, in 1956; received a Masters degree from Utah State University in 1958; and a PhD in Zoology from the University of California Davis in 1962. While in Davis, Glen and Carolyn adopted three children; later they adopted three more children after settling in Washington where Glen began his career as a professor at Central Washington University a job he loved for 42 years. Glen is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 59 years; children Darin (Crystal), Ellensburg; MariLee (Brent) Ostrowski, Sandy, Utah; Cory, Seattle; Cherene (Jeff) Sorensen, Smithfield, Utah; Alicia (Ken) Burstall, Leander, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his dog Tyesha. Also survived by brothers Ray (LaRue) Roy, Utah; Brent (LuJean) Sugar City, Idaho; sisters Carolee Harris, Portland, Oregon; LaRee Smith, Rexburg, Idaho; Beth (Dick) Bird, Rexburg, Idaho; and sisters-in-law Geraldine Mortensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Verla Rae Mortensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Marilyn (Ed) Lauder, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruth Clark; sisters Ruth and Brenda Shirley; son Barry, granddaughter Nicole Sorensen; and brothers-in-law Gene Smith, Morten Mortensen, Richard (Wanda) Mortensen, and Boyd Mortensen.Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 17, at the new Ellensburg LDS chapel on Kittitas Highway with visitation at noon; followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will be in Rexburg, Idaho, on Friday, March 19.
