Gladys E. Freel, age 92, of Whittemore went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009. She was born on Dec. 31, 1916, in Tawas City. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Mina Graham. Gladys graduated from Whittemore High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to Floyd N. Freel on May 8, 1937. Gladys was a homemaker and also worked as a production worker at Standish Products, Inc., for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of Whittemore United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir. She was a member of the W.S.C.S., a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 426 in Whittemore and a member of the Traveling Lumberjacks Camping Association. Gladys also enjoyed cooking and sewing. She resided the last 5½ years at Tawas Village, where she received loving care. She is survived by her four children, Graham "Butch" (Gwen) Freel of Tawas City, Jeanne (Stewart) Wieland of Caro, Gary (Sherry) Freel of Gallatin, Tenn., and Marjorie (David) Fasbender of Lincoln. She also was the grandmother of Tara (Randy), Greg (Judy), Tina (Kevin), Tracy (Mike), Scott (Sarah), Angie (Doug), Eric (April), Gary Jr., Kimberly and Tammi; and great-grandmother of Bryce, Devin, Briana, Nichelle, Chase, Justin, Stephanie, Megan, Mandy, Nathan, Cody, Alexis, Hannah, Ethan, Timothy and Emily. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, on Aug. 3, 1987; precious granddaughter, Kerry Mae Fasbender, who died May 16, 1999; and five brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Whittemore United Methodist Church, 406 SE Fourth Street in Whittemore. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Rev. Brenda Klacking will officiate. Interment will be in Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to United Methodist Church of Whittemore or the . Arrangements are handled by Buresh and Kobs Funeral Home in Tawas City.
