Gertrude Tjemsland of Port Townsend passed away at the age of 94 on November 14, 2016, from natural causes. She was born on March 28, 1922 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Henry Bulman and Nettie Smith. Gertrude married Ole Tjemsland on October 1, 1943, in Terry County, Texas, he passed away on September 8, 1994. Gertrude worked as a grocery store operator in Port Townsend. Gertrude was a longtime election poll worker as well. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary and Soroptimist International. Gertrude was a loving and generous mother and will also be remembered for her wry sense of humor. She is survived by her sons, Morgan (Judy) of Toledo, Washington, Hank (Chelle) of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Conrad (Verna) of Eugene, Oregon, and Jan (Kristy) Port Hadlock; her daughter, Mabel (Steve) Muck of Port Townsend; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Morgan, Sam and Herman. There will be a memorial service at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto Street in Port Townsend, on Sunday, December 11, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
