Gerardo "Doydoy" Yacapin Requiron, 77, of Consolacion, Central Visayas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
A proud Philippines Army veteran, Doydoy was the fifth child born to the late Donato Requiron Sr. and Teresa Waga Yacapin on October 3, 1944, in Mambajao Camiguin, Philippines. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Highschool in 1961. He started his 27-year career in the Armed Forces of the Philippines on May 1, 1967 and retired on September 24, 1994 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was a decorated soldier and proud of his accomplishments.
Doydoy and Rufa married on July 21, 1975 in Zamboanga City, and welcomed their first child, Theresa "Tata" on January 11, 1976. The family grew to six with the births of Maria Teresa (Tess), Samuel (Boyet), Shelly (Elly), Marion (Yon-yon), and Norman (Manie).
Through the years, Doydoy enjoyed outdoor walks, collecting rocks, loved travelling, sightseeing, watching action movies, reading and loved books - his most favorite topics to read were politics and history books and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Gospel and loved telling others about it. He held many church callings throughout his life, such as a Bishop, Branch President, Sunday School Teacher, Elders Quorum President, and High Council. He loved serving the Lord in many ways and had a special love for the elderly members and youth of his ward.
He traveled to the United States of America for the first time in 2012 and visited the church sites, the Temple Square, the Church History Museum, This Is the Place Monument, Mormon Battalion Monument, Welfare Square, and Ensign Peak. He traveled back to the U.S. in 2020 to visit his two children and grandchildren in Colorado and Idaho. Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, he was not permitted to go back to the Philippines for awhile. He enjoyed his time in the U.S. and loved the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit other places.
After he returned from the U.S. on March 23, 2022, he decided to settle in Consolacion Cebu Philippines permanently.
Doydoy and Rufa called Cagayan de Oro City area home for almost 50 years.
Doydoy is survived by his wife, Rufa; their children Theresa/Tata (Edwin), Tess (Justin), Samuel (Jeorgette), Elly (Je-Ann), Marion (Christine), and Norman (Cindy); fifteen grandchildren, England Rose, Zarraiah Nichole (Joshua), Ammon Jake, Aaron John, George Justin, Sofia Krystalle, Kaya Sue, Wyatt Cash, Jiorja Lin, Kandyl Mattie, Heinrich Mar, Howard, Heinsleigh, Savannah Ellie, and Althea Ellie; his siblings Ofelia a.k.a Sister Michelle, Herminigilda (Isaurugo), Fe, Leila, and Manuel (Rebecca).
