Gerald Lock, 87, of Edmonton and Okotoks, Alberta, passed away at Oilfields General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on August 18, 2022, at the age of 87.

Gerald is survived by his wife Edna and their two sons, Gareth (Stacey) and Grenville (Monica). He was predeceased by his son Graeme Steven on August 7, 1998. He has six grandchildren whom he adored. Chantelle, Graeme, Sophia, Konstantina, Christiana and Gabriella.

Gerald was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family immensely and will be greatly missed.

Gerald was born in London, England in 1935. He was raised in Newcastle where he met and married the love of his life, Edna Burness. In 1962 they emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta where they raised their three sons. He had a storied career as a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Alberta, receiving the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977 for his contributions to engineering. Gerald retired into a second full career as an accomplished artist working under the pseudonym Gerald St. Maur, where he is a past president of both the Society of Canadian Artists and the Alberta Society of Artists.

Gerald became a Christian on August 1, 2022. We thank the Lord for His amazing gift and His grace, mercy and loving kindness toward us. Romans 8:38-39.

A funeral service will be held in Black Diamond at the Black Diamond Gospel Chapel on Monday, August 29th at 2:00pm. 212 Centre Ave W.

A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held in Edmonton at the University Club (former Faculty Club) on September 10th in the Papaschase room from 1:00 to 5:00pm. (11435 Saskatchewan Drive NW).

A reception will be held after the service.
