Gerald J. McManus - SAVANNAH - Gerald J. McManus of Savannah died Monday, November 7, 2016, in Savannah, Georgia. He was born on December 15, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late James and Catherine McManus. He was a graduate of Villanova University and served honorably in the United States Army. He was employed by the United States Customs Service, rising to become the District Director for the State of Georgia and then Assistant Commissioner for Commercial Operations where he oversaw the efforts of 6,000 employees. Later, he served as the Vice President for Regulatory Affairs for BDP International. He was a long-time parishioner at St. James Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a frequent volunteer at the Inner City Night Shelter and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was preceded in death by his brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catherine; his children Mary (Mark) Lisicia and Michael (Kendal) McManus; his five grandchildren: Mac, Kate, Andrew, Owen, and Peter; and his sister Marita. There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2016 with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Ave., Savannah, GA.
