George T. Greethurst, 83, of St. Charles, Minn. died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Mayo Clinic-St. Mary's Campus in Rochester, Minn. surrounded by his family members.George was born on Dec. 15, 1931 in Fremont Township, Minn. to William and Agnes (nee Hilested) Greethurst. He was raised at Fremont where he attended country school through the eighth grade. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On Oct. 4, 1952, George was united in marriage with Lorraine Traxinger. He worked all over the United States as a Civil Service fireman and fire chief until his retirement in the early 1980s. Following his retirement, George worked in Oregon as an apartment manager and in Michigan as a lumber yard manager. He moved to St. Charles where he has lived for the past 10 years. George was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles and the Knights of Columbus. George is survived by three children: Michael (Karen) Greethurst and Gary (Jenny) Greethurst of Enid Okla. and Patti (Duane Rodgers) Greethurst of Skandia, Mich.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, William Myer; a sister, Vonda McAllister; and by his stepmother, Lida Greethurst. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; daughter, Cheryl Greethurst; granddaughter, Rose Carlson; and sister, Donna Fabian. A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, January 13 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles.
