George Helmstetler LUBBOCK-George Helmstetler passed away November 8th, 2016 at Carillon House. George was born on Oct. 27, 1923, to Charlie Helmstetler and Nora Hall in Elmer, OK. George enjoyed a full, happy, interesting life for 93 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He married Mary Anne Nelson in 1947. They moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he attended and graduated from Draughns Business College. He then began a career in various businesses and investments. In 1989, George married Helen Akers. He was a member of Samaritan Sunday school class at First Baptist Church. George was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and son, Larry Johns; stepson, Mark Akers; brothers, Albert and Wayne; and sisters, Wilma Shelton and Yvonne Fouts. George is survived by his wife, Helen; brother, Holbert and wife, Loydene; stepdaughter, Marsha Akers; grandchildren, Laura Speer and husband, Eddie, Stacy Gillies and husband, Patrick, Mattie Akers, Charles Roberts, Hillary Roberts; several nieces and nephews; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Saturday, Nov. 12, 2 p.m. at Ford Chapel at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Interment will be held in Resthaven cemetery in Lubbock, Texas.
