George Alt, 75West Liberty, IowaGeorge Joseph Alt, 75, of West Liberty Iowa passed away Thursday, March 2nd 2017 in his home. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfunerahome.com. George was born on August 28th 1941 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the eldest son of Joseph & Agda Eldeen Alt. His siblings include Liz Utizg (Leroy), Joan (Randy) Belknap, Bob (Jane) Alt, & Art Alt. He attended high school at University High in Iowa City. After graduation, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was a Radar Specialist during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After completing his Military career, George married Donna Marie Alwine on December 8th, 1962 in North Liberty Iowa. George and Donna had 3 sons; Steve, Larry, and Tony. George and Donna moved to West Liberty in 1970. He spent most of his career at Proctor & Gamble in Iowa City as an Electrician & Electronics Specialist. Upon retirement, he participated in the Muscatine County Fair where he enjoyed working the grounds for over a decade. George enjoyed making rope at the county fair, as well as multiple community activities throughout the state. He loved spending time at the family pond - his refuge. George also volunteered at the Midwest Old Threshers and serving on the Board of Directors. He spent many years as a member of the American Legion, Veteran's Affairs & Rotary. In addition to his beloved wife Donna, George is survived by his children; Steve (Sandra), Larry (Tammy) and Tony (Kim) Alt and 7 grandchildren; Angela (Andrew), Danielle, Austin, McKenna, Cale, Emma and Danica. He was preceded in death with his parents & brother Art. George will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and great enthusiasm for family time and bonding at the pond as well as his love for the Hawkeyes. He was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.
