Gary Howell, 80, of Windsor, California, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020.
Born on April 30, 1940 to Dora Carmen Regoli and Stanley Newell Howell in San Francisco, California. He attended Balboa High School where he lettered in Baseball and Basketball. After which he served his country for three years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany before receiving an honorable discharge. He later went on to California State University, Graduating June 1, 1973 with a Masters degree in Science.
Gary was enthusiastic about sports which led him to a career as the Park and Recreation Director for the Town of San Anselmo where little league and girls Bobby sox was born! He enjoyed 30 years there serving his community. He eventually went to work for and retired from the Chamber of commerce in Windsor where he would oversee projects like the tomato festival and farmers markets on the town green.
In his later years he passed his time with his favorite hobbies such as refinishing furniture and traveling around to sell his pieces at all the local antique fairs and festivals with his friend Rich. He also enjoyed watching sports. He was a big bay area sports team fan! He loved the A's, SF Giants and was a huge 49er fan!
Gary is survived by his long time girlfriend, Fleur Nelson, his daughters Stephanie Gay Howell and Amy Taylor of Petaluma, CA and his stepson Joe McCormick of Cotati, CA. Older sister Diana “Bonnie” Nering of Carson City, NV, Younger brother Jack Howell (Heather) of Reno, NV, younger sister Jill Heneberry (Tom) of Concord, CA. Grandchildren Jazmyne Taylor and Kyle Taylor, Nieces and Nephews Catherine Bachand, Ashleigh Henry, Maren Foster, Mitchel Darrow, Todd Darrow, Sandee Mcgurty, Chris Rojo and Ian Henneberry
