Gary Bruce Kersey74, of Frankfort, Ind., passed away at 2:08 p.m. on September 17, 2017 at Witham Hospital, Lebanon, Ind. Gary was born on September 28, 1942 in Greencastle, Ind., to the late Lee Maurice and Nell Grace (White) Kersey. Gary married Janice D. Gibbs in Terre Haute, Ind. in 1962 and they were married for 55 years. He was a 1960 graduate of Greencastle High School and a 1964 graduate of Indiana State University where he received his BS and MS degree. He then received his Administrative degree from Indiana University. Gary was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Indiana State. He was also a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge, Frankfort Symposiarchs, Moose Lodge and the St. Matthew United Methodist Church, all in Frankfort. Gary taught at Merrillville, Ind., from 1964-1966, then moved to Frankfort where he taught until 1998. He was a track, cross county, and basketball coach for Frankfort Junior High and Frankfort High School during his tenure of 32 years. He owned and operated K & P Painting business for over 44 years. After his retirement, he and Jan wintered in Fort Myers, Fla., where he enjoyed golfing and being with friends.Gary is survived by, wife: Janice D. Kersey of Frankfort; daughter: Kelli S. (husband: Brian) Heimbach of Frankfort; son: Dr. Patrick (wife: Dr. Jennifer) Kersey of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren: Carmen E. (husband David) Cannon of Carmel, Braxton P. Heimbach of Denver, CO., Lily M., John Henry, Charles Patrick and Lucy C. Kersey all of Indianapolis; 1 great grandson: Andrew George Cannon; sister in law: Jane Johnson of Lebanon, IN.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ross A. Kersey and his in-laws, Robert & Margaret Gibbs. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 1 p.m., September 28, 2017 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1951 Wilshire Dr., Frankfort. Pastor Phil Lake will officiate. Visitation with family will follow the memorial service until 5 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
