Garland Wayne DaltonJanuary 26, 1962 - September 9, 2017MontereyGarland Wayne Dalton passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family, after a short and valiant battle with lymphoma. Wayne was born on January 26, 1962 in Danville, Virginia. He lived in Danville and was a member of the Congregational-Christian Church until his father's military service brought his family to California in 1968. After his parents divorced at age 7, Wayne remained in Seaside, California, with his mother, Betty Sue, and his brother, Tony. Betty Sue was a role model for Wayne, always providing for her two boys and ensuring they had all they needed to live joyful, healthy, and productive lives. It was from his mother that Wayne learned the value of commitment, his strong work ethic and his focus on family.Wayne was an avid student throughout his school years, and an athlete well into college. He attended Fremont Junior High and graduated from Monterey High School. He was a high school "Iron Man," competing in three sports for all four years. During high school and college, Wayne worked for the City of Monterey Recreation Department. He graduated from Fresno State University, a proud Bulldog and an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Wayne began his career as Recreation Superintendent for the City of Dinuba in 1986. In 1988, he began his tenure with the City of Monterey as Community Center Director of the Monterey Youth Center. He was then promoted to Administrative Analyst and later to Parking Superintendent in September of 2007. Throughout his career, Wayne built a reputation as a man of character, a trusted colleague and a selfless servant of the public good. He served on the Board of Directors for the California Public Parking Association (CPPA) for more than nine years, including two terms as president. His fellow CPPA members were more than colleagues to Wayne; he was proud to call them family too. Wayne was active in his community and in the lives of others. During the late 1980's, Wayne was a member of the Monterey Jaycees. In 2000, Wayne joined the
Rotary Club of Seaside, later serving as president for three terms. Wayne coached youth soccer and softball teams; served meals to those in need through a local food program; and lent his time and talents to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, the Community Partnership for Youth, and the Gateway Center. Wayne married Carrie Curatolo in 1990 and together they had two children, Nathaniel (Nate) Wayne and Hailey Frances Dalton. Although his first marriage ended, his children remained the center of his life. In 2009, Wayne fell in love with Jennifer Ramras Sardina and her three daughters, Gabriella, Natalie, and Kathryn. Wayne loved the "whole package" from day one. Their love grew deeper and stronger over time and in 2013, Wayne and Jennifer decided to join their two families together into one. Together, Wayne and Jennifer built a new life with their five amazing children at the center of it all. While each member of the family had their own unique story, they were bound together by love and the commitment to family shown by Wayne and Jennifer. One of Wayne's proudest life accomplishments was the success of his blended family. Wayne was loved and admired by those who knew him in every aspect of his life. Wayne was a man of great integrity, wit, and charm. Although quiet by temperament, he made a powerful and lasting impact on the lives he touched. He was an active member of the community and unselfishly gave his time and energy for the benefit of his family, friends, and community.Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Sue Weatherford Dalton. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Ramras Dalton; his children Nathaniel and Hailey Dalton, Gabriella, Natalie, and Kathryn Sardina, Rachel Martinez and Nishant Rangrej; and his brother Tony Dalton.
