FAIRBORN — Galen "Tuffy" E. Thompson, age 72 passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 14, 1943 in Troy, Ohio to the late Francis and Martha Thompson. In addition to his parents, Tuffy was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Connie (Mauchamer) Thompson. In addition to his wife, Tuffy is survived by one son Kurt Thompson of Boone, NC and one daughter Maggie (Darrell) Hall of Springfield, OH. Survivors also include four grandchildren: Ben and Sam Thompson and Madison and Alec Hall; two sisters: Linda Carr of Columbus, OH and Shirley (Bob) Shatto of Little River, SC; sister-in-law: Joan Thompson of Clearwater, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. Tuffy was a 1961 graduate of Troy High School. He retired from Fairborn City Schools in 2002 after 35 years of teaching. He began his football coaching career in 1966 at Miami East High School, Casstown OH; went on to Park Hills High School in Fairborn, OH as an assistant/head coach for 12 years; and this season would have marked his 25th year as the Defensive Coordinator at Tecumseh High School, New Carlisle, OH. True to his helping nature, Tuffy donated his body to the Wright State Anatomical Gift Program. There will be a Memorial Service celebrating Tuffy's life on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the Tecumseh High School Auditorium, 9830 W. National Road, New Carlisle, OH 45344. If desired, contributions may be made to the Tecumseh Athletic Program in his memory.
