January 30, 1924 ~ December 7, 2014F. Maxene Combe Thompson, age 90, of South Jordan, passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2014, in South Jordan, Utah, as a result of illness caused by age. Maxene was born on Jan. 30, 1924, in Ogden, Utah, to Jule Sr. and L. Beatrice Parker Combe. Maxene married the late James A. Thompson on Nov. 28, 1945, in Salt Lake City in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Maxene and Jim met through Maxene's friendship with his sister Dorothy. She waited for him while he served in the Army in Europe. After marrying, she worked as a secretary while Jim attended engineering school at the University of Washington in Seattle. She was known for her excellent typing and organizing skills. Afterwards, they moved to Los Angeles, where Jim found a job at McCulloch, and they started a family. But when she and their second son, Lynn, started having health problems from the smog, they moved back to Ogden. She served faithfully in church callings, mostly in Primary and Relief Society. She was always doing things to help others - neighbors, church members, and family - and used her various skills in cross-stitch, knitting, crochet, baking and sewing to provide numerous gifts and acts of service. She earned some extra money sewing dresses and making wedding cakes. When Jim lost his job in Ogden, he found another in Logan, Utah, and they moved to Logan after their daughter Laurie finished high school. After retirement, Jim contracted lung cancer from his exposure to second-hand smoke and died in 1999. Maxene has resided with her daughter in South Jordan since his death. She has been a devoted wife and mother, and we will miss her.Maxene is survived by her son Brent and Sonja (Porter) Thompson, son Lynn and Pamela (Christensen) Thompson, and daughter Laurie Thompson and Bill Bylund. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
