Evelyn Rosa Turner Goree Shannon passed away peacefully at her home in Riverhead, New York on April 16, 2024. She was born on March 4, 1929 to Walker Turner Sr. and Martha Jane Turner (Lynch).
Evelyn was a loving mother to her three children, Kevin J. Goree Sr.,(Anna) Katrina Cunningham (Doug), and Kristin J. Goree (Lisa). She was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, Lavonda, Kevin Jr.(Heather), Olivia, Kristine, Korrina, and Kesi. 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She attended Riverhead High School and graduated in 1947. Evelyn beame an accomplished seamstress and also worked as housekeeper. She was known for her fashionable flair with meticulous attention to detail and her dedication to her work.
Outside of her secular work, Evelyn was actively involved in the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses organization. Baptized in 1948 she dedicated many hours to helping others and spreading Bible truth within her community. In 2000 she volunteered as a pioneer and spent 70 or more hours per month in the ministry.
Evelyn had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Many of her travels included attending her annual Bible conventions. Egypt, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and China were a few of her destinations. She cherished the memories she made during her adventures with over flowing scrapbooks and photo albums.
At the age of 75, Evelyn had the joy of reconnecting with her childhood sweetheart, Kenneth D. Shannon. They married on June 19, 2004 and celebrated their anniversary each month with dinners, gifts and flowers. They enjoyed 2 years immense happiness, before Kenneths passing in July 2006.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Martha Ann Arch, two endearing neices, Sharon Norman and Victoria Raniolo along with many family members and cherished friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth and two brothers Walker and Ernest Turner.
Evelyn's kindness, faith and generosity, and touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
We, her children would like to extend our sincere thanks to all who reached out with thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
