Evelyn Marian Johnson of Oscoda, formerly of Bay City, passed away in Saginaw on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at age 90, under the loving care of her family and hospice. Evelyn was born on April 11, 1921, in AuSable Township to Alfred and Mitchell (nee Bois) Couture. She was a graduate of Oscoda High School. Evelyn married her husband, Elvin Johnson, and together they raised two daughters. Evelyn stayed at home and raised their children and worked hard at canning both fruits and vegetables that she and her family grew. She enjoyed cooking large family-style meals and baking fresh breads. Evelyn will also be remembered for her love of cats and going to casinos. Most specifically, she will be always thought of for the love, devotion and confidence she gave and taught to her family. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Mickey (Roger Beebe) Johnson of Modesto, Calif., and Beverly Beyer of Saginaw; three grandchildren, Lisa Mayhew, Tivona Lamberth and Elizabeth Beyer (Scot Hall); four great-grandchildren, Landon Beyer, Pryce Helton, Mason Helton and Madison Lamberth; one sister, Shirley Sullivan of Oscoda; one brother-in-law, Leslie Johnson of Wellsley, Mass.; one sister-in-law, Sadie Hudgens of West Lafayette, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Johnson in 1994; and four sisters, Marie Grogan, Doris Beck, Lillian Brooks and Eva Hill. Funeral services for Evelyn were held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. Interment took place in Oscoda Pinecrest Cemetery.
