Hoeffler, Eugene J. Jan. 28, 1923 - Oct. 10, 2015 Eugene J. Hoeffler, 92, died peacefully October 10, 2015, at Bay Village Retirement Center. He was born on January 28, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio to Urban and Mary Hoeffler. He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland and attended Case Western Reserve. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy as a radar technician. On April 27, 1946 he married the 'love of his life', Patricia A. Murphy. Gene is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia of Sarasota. His three children, Mary Kay Osborne (Mike) of Cedar Springs, Michigan, Jim Hoeffler (Maureen) of Stillwater, Minnesota, John Hoeffler (Carol) of Boulder, Colorado, as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Gene was a loving husband and father with a kind and joyful spirit. In his career he was a successful entrepreneur in the hotel and boating business. He was an avid speed skater and mentored his best friend's son onto the Winter Olympics. In 1984 Gene and Pat moved to Florida. Years in Florida were spent with numerous activities, most notably as the daily tennis coach at the Sarasota Boys and Girls Club for over a decade. Teaching tennis and 'life lessons' to hundreds of Sarasota 's children. Although a world traveler for decades of his life, Siesta Key Beach remained one of his favorite places on Earth. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am Saturday October 24 at St. Thomas More Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Dr. Sarasota.
