Ernest Barnard Mercer IIIDallas, TX - Ernest B. Mercer III, "Barney", died peacefully on October 26, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, after a battle with Leukemia. He was born on March 28, 1937, in New Orleans, LA., to Ernest B. Mercer, Jr. and Martha Cole Mercer, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou "M'Lou" Kent Mercer, and daughters Sinclair Mercer Buquet of Houma, LA. and her husband, James J. Buquet III, Holly Mercer Hurley of Dallas and her husband Jay Hurley, Kathlyn Mercer Sears also of Dallas and her husband Scott Sears. Grandchildren include James and Mary Mercer Buquet, Katie and Sara Sears, and Kate Hurley. He also leaves a sister Martha "Tony" West her daughter Leslie of Austin, TX, a brother, "Cholly" Mercer, of Seattle, WA. and wife Kathleen and sons Cole and Miles and daughter Emily O'Connell. Barney and M'Lou were married 44 years. They met in Lafayette, LA where they resided until moving to Dallas in 1988. Barney held a B. S. in Bus. Adm. from LSU and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He served as an officer in the Army National Guard and the U. S. Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Captain in the Corps of Engineers. He spent his career in the insurance industry, specializing in risk management. He obtained his CPCU and ARM professional designations and was a former member of Lloyd's of London. Barney was a proud Christian and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas.Barney was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and any sport that brought him closer to God's great outdoors and natural beauty. On most Thursdays, Barney could be found on a golf course with any number of cherished friends.Barney Mercer's life will be celebrated in a service at Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue in Dallas at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3..
