SOUTHINGTON - Eraldo "Al" Robert Palumbo, 91, of Southington, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at HOCC- New Britain. He was the loving husband of the late Pearl (Duchene) Palumbo for 52 years.Al was born on June 17, 1925, in Waterbury, to the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (DelCegno) Palumbo, and had been a longtime Southington resident. Al served in the National Guard. He lived most of his adult life in Southington where he opened his garage, Palumbo's Esso in 1955. Al was well-known in the community for his honest and loyal service and for his genuine love for people. He worked passionately to preserve the nature and character of the small town of Marion, where he lived the majority of his life. Al was an avid bowler and was also an active member of the Holy Name Society of St. Aloysius Parish. He was a loyal fan of the UConn girls' basketball team, and also a member of the Roaring 20's Antique Car Club. His favorite vacation spot was Green Lake in Maine. Al will be remembered by all who knew him for his zest for life, and his love and absolute devotion to his children and family.Al is survived by his brother, Dominic (Patricia) Palumbo, of Trumbull; seven children, Bonnie Albanese (Ken Stevens,) of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth McGeehan, of Meriden, Sandra Wood, of Cheshire, Debra (Geoff) Smith, of Bristol, Donna (Joseph) Marinan, of Meriden, Brett (Sherri) Palumbo, of Southington, and Robin (Stanley) Emond, of Cheshire. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Valerie Buechele, of Southington; 12 grandchildren, Lorin Watkins, Matthew Albanese, Jean McGeehan, Reneé Hearn, Traci Wood, Tod Wood, Tara Buechele, Christopher Buechele, Allison Dale, Mandi Cyr, Nick Augelli, and Adam Augelli; 10 great-grandchildren, Luke, Sophia, Zoey, Bryce, Trey, Erin, Spencer, Savannah, Brody, and Aubrey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gemma (Jean) Mirando; son, Ronald Buechele; brother, Edmund Palumbo; sister, Jenny Barillari; and two sons-in laws, Joseph McGeehan and Robert Wood.In lieu of flowers, donations in Al's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 78 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051-2607. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Committal services will follow at Holy Trinity PNC Cemetery, Plantsville. Family and friends may gather on Friday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S.
