Emma Ellene (Humphrey) Rankin, 76Emma Ellene (Humphrey) Rankin, 76, passed away on Saturday evening, July 8, 2017, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.She was born on May 18, 1941, in Wilder, Tennessee, the daughter of John W. and Lillie J. (Shepherd) Humphrey and attended Fentress County Schools.Ellene worked for Ball State University for 23 years until her retirement in 2003 and enjoyed gardening and traveling.Survivors include three sons, Hutch Rankin (wife, Mayeth) of Grand Rapids, MI, Jack Rankin (wife, Susie) of Muncie and Ronald Rankin of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Ron "Rowdy" Rankin, Justin Rankin, Cassidy Rankin, Clay Rankin and Amber Rankin; two great-grandchildren, Mason Rankin and Zander Rankin; one brother, Johnny Wayne Humphrey of Elkton, KY; one sister, Pat Lamb (husband, Adam) of Cookeville, TN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and two sisters.Private family services will be held at a later date and cremation will take place.Memorial contributions may be directed to the .The family would like to give special thanks to all of Ellene's caregivers at Signature Health Care, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and Hospice for their care and attention.The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.meeksmortuary.com.
