Elena T. Montoya, passed away peacefully on Jan. 18, 2013 at Guadalupe County Hospital surrounded by her family.Elena was born on March 24, 1916, in Las Manuelitas to the home of Delfinio and Cleofes (Gurule) Trujillo. She married the love of her life Jose David Montoya on Dec. 15, 1930, in Las Manuelitas, where they resided and had their children, Zenon, Charlie, and Delia. It was always going to be their home but work took them to Borger, Texas, where David was employed by Phillips 66 Plant until he retired in the early 1960s. They moved back to the family home and ranch in Las Manuelitas and eventually made their final move to Santa Rosa.Elena was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Society and Las Hijas de Maria. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother to everyone along with quilting, cooking, taking care of her family, watching EWTN and praying the Rosary.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her sons, Zenon Montoya and Charlie Montoya; granddaughters, Marcella Montoya and Julie Montoya; grandsons, Carlos Montoya and Gabriel Rivera; her niece and foster daughter, Rosie Barela; brothers, Luis Trujillo, Raymond Trujillo, and a sister, Eduvijen Barela.Survivors include her daughter, Delia Rivera and husband Secundino of Santa Rosa; daughters- in-law, Alice Montoya, Reynalda Salazar and husband Barney of Sapello; nephew and foster son, Sammy Barela of Las Manuelitas, grandchildren, David Rivera and wife Yvette, Catrina Gallegos and husband Frank, Michael Montoya, Rebecca Montoya and husband Michael Tamarro, Gloria Montoya, Victor Montoya and wife Christine, Virginia Montoya, Arthur Montoya and wife Roberta, Paul Montoya and wife Maria, Andrew Montoya, Dolores Sanchez and husband Mark, Raymond Montoya and wife Anita, also surviving are 29 great- grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.Rosary and funeral mass were held on Monday at St. Rose of Lima Church with Celebrant Fr. Thomas Kayamakkal officiating. Burial followed in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery.Serving as pallbearers were: Sammy Barela, Manuel Barela, Tom Trujillo, Christopher Gallegos, David Montoya, and Jeremy Montoya All services for Elena Montoya were entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
