In Loving Memory of Edward Maristany Rodriguez-Baz
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Maristany Rodriguez-Baz, who passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 2nd. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1935, Edward was a gifted and dedicated surgeon. His career was profoundly impacted by the Cuban Revolution, which led him to leave his homeland in search of a better future for his family.
In 1968, Edward and his family arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where he resumed his medical practice, serving his community with skill and compassion for over 27 years until his retirement in 1996. While he will be remembered by many as an exceptional doctor and surgeon, to his family, he was so much more—a devoted patriarch who sacrificed everything to rebuild their lives and secure a future of freedom and opportunity. His unwavering love, wisdom, and strength shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Amy Maristani. He is survived by his loving children: Juan Rodriguez-Baz (Sara), Jamey Alberto Rodriguez-Baz (Rebeca), and Julia Rodriguez-Baz (Brian). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Alberto Rodriguez-Baz (Angelica), Lili Rodriguez-Baz, Anthony Powell, Carlos Powell, Luis Fernando Rodriguez-Baz, Gabriel Rodriguez-Baz, and Ana Carolina Rodriguez-Baz.
A funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Madeleine (331 E S Temple) on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 AM. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the family home to share memories and celebrate Edward’s life.
Edward’s love, sacrifice, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
