Edward A. GereAGE: 88 • LakewoodEdward A. Gere, age 88, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Mr. Gere was born on July 21, 1929 in Woodbridge, NJ, and he was the son of the late Helen (Sandor) and Edward Gere. He was raised in Woodbridge and later resided in Tuckerton, Manahawkin, and Mays Landing before moving to Lakewood 3 years ago. Mr. Gere served in the
US Navy during
World War II upon the USS Cabot and participated in the battle of Saipan. He was a retired engineer who had previously worked with WDSR in Lake City, FL and later with Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. His projects with Bell Labs included working with technologies related to microwave technologies and cathoid rays. His efforts aided in the design of the Tandem Van de Graaff electrostatic accelerator. He had received eleven patents and other combined patents with other scientists. Mr. Gere was the first president of the Pheasant Run Home Owner's Association in Barnegat, NJ. Brother of the late Helen Anness, he is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Margret (Badolato) Gere; three children, Edward and his wife Evamarie, Kevin and Michael; a brother, Ernest; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, Patrick, Matthew, Stephanie, Denise and her husband Edward, and Meghan and her husband Joseph; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jerimiah and Jade. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 18, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Roman Catholic Prayers will be offered at 4:30 p.m. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017, in the Chapel of the Holy Cross Cemetery, 5061 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, and NJ 08330.
