Elbert (Bert) Dewitt Hunter passed away peacefully on September 8, 2016. He was born on January 30, 1930 in Glenwood, Arkansas to Virgil Earnest and Florence Ellie Miller Hunter. Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas in 1953 he served in the US Navy as a LTJG from 1953-1957. Bert continued his education at the University of Texas earning a Masters in Accounting. He was a practicing CPA with many large firms and private industries throughout his career.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty) Ruth Hunter to whom he was married for 41 wonderful years, his parents, his brothers Dale and Doyle Hunter and his sister Elva Parker.
Bert is survived by his daughter Martha Hunter Mostellar and her husband Curt of New Bern, NC, grandchildren Curtis Mostellar (Ellen) of Charleston, SC and Jennie Mostellar of Charlotte, NC. In addition he is survived by his brother's wife Clarice Hunter and their children, Susan Willard (James) and Dale Hunter (Vikki) and their families, Betty's nieces: Carol (Larry) Booth, Cindy Keelan, Cheryl (Sonny) Bryan and their families.
Poppy was a wonderful cook and his chili recipe is legendary in Eastern NC, where he frequently prepared large volumes of chili for his beloved grandchildren and friends and neighbors.
A graveside service for Bert and Betty will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Conroe Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Hyden officiating.
