Douglas Asa HackneyMay 14, 1946 - October 9, 2015Douglas Asa Hackney, 69, of Nampa passed away at his home on October 9, 2015. He is the son of Frieda (Kuhlman) and Lee Hackney. He was born on May 14, 1946 and raised in Nampa, attending the local grade schools and graduated from Nampa High School in 1964, followed by an Associate Degree from Boise Junior College. He met his bride to be, Marsha Mayer while working together at Penny Wise drug store in 1967. They married on August 22, 1970 and had two sons. Doug worked many different jobs thru the early and mid 1970's including, Ford Tractor, Boise Cascade, Meridian Wood and then began an apprenticeship with a local Electrician. He then started his own Electrical business in 1976 for which he worked and ran until his death. Doug was a successful contractor and built many relationships with people that lasted his lifetime. When he was young, Doug enjoyed the many camping and hunting trips with his parents and younger brother Stephen. Some of his many hobbies included shooting and reloading, woodworking, reading and constant learning of almost anything. He was a science fiction junkie. When the computer age began he was fascinated about it. Getting his first computer and joining local computer clubs, he stayed up to date with the newest and latest technology. His favorite drink of choice was coffee, he could drink it all day long, He rarely missed his daily trips to the coffee shop where he enjoyed conversation and debates with his many friends. Doug was a man of many talents. If you had a question, you could always count on him for advice. He would give you an answer whether you liked it or not! He truly loved life and meeting new people. He was a happy Grandfather and treasured his Grandson Cory. Doug was a trooper thru life battling type one diabetes since age 4. This condition caused blindness and many other problems that eventually took his life. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Frieda. He is survived by his former wife Marsha, sons Paul and Bruce, brother Stephen, and grandson Cory (Stacia). Doug was an intelligent man with many talents. His guidance and warm humor will be missed forever. A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
