Dorothy Stanley of Creston passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 at the Margate Health and Rehab Center. She was 88.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1926 to the late John Henry Daugherty and Maudie Mae Osborne Daugherty. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband R.H. Stanley; two sisters and two brothers.
Dorothy loved flowers and especially enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed taking care of her family, especially caring for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed reading.
She was a member of Big Laurel Church of Christ in Christian Union.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and David Campbell; son, Roger Stanley and fiancé Marie Hamby; granddaughters: Mendy Day and husband Marvin, Amanda Finley and husband Justin, Natasha Peyton and Tamara Fritz; great grandchildren: Grayson Finley, Gracie Finley, Tyler Day, Tanner Day and Timothy Fritz; great-great grandchildren: Kenlie and Chloe Day; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was conducted on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastors Darrell Graybeal and Lundy Finley, Jr. officiating. Special music was provided by Kody Norris.
Graveside service and interment followed at the Stanley Family Cemetery in Creston. Pallbearers were Justin Finley, Jesse Vanover, Daniel Fritz, Jerry Wood, Tyler Day and Tanner Day. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Margate Health and Rehab.
The family received friends from noon -2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Peggy Campbell, 13658 N.C. 88 W in Creston.
