Dorothy J. Butler, age 78, of East Tawas died on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010.She was born on March 30, 1932, in Royal Oak to the late Earl and Helen Weaver (nee Allen). Dorothy has called East Tawas home since the late 1940s, where she has left her mark as selfless and caring wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family above all and providing them with her example of strength and courage. Dorothy loved working in her yard and tending to her flowers, snowmobiling, going to Jazzercise, dancing, playing the organ, listening to country music and playing slot machines at the casino with Las Vegas being a favorite destination. She also enjoyed traveling out West to winter in Tucson, Ariz. Dorothy is survived by three children, James Jr. (Linda) Butler of Fredericksburg, Va., Debra (David) Mielock of Northville and David (Faye) Butler of Midland; and seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Robert, Brian, Lauren, Tyler, Kirsty and Taylor. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Jamison Tingler; brother, Earl J. Weaver Jr. of East Tawas; two sisters, Margaret Roberts of West Bloomfield and Carol (Jake) Stone of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James T. Butler Sr., on Jan. 11, 2005; and two sisters, Betty Salvato and Virginia Memmer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at Buresh and Kobs Funeral Home in Tawas City.
