SWANSBORO – Doris Sampson Jacobs, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.

Preceding her in death, her husband, Morris Jacobs, Swansboro; her son, Christopher Jacobs, Swansboro; mother, Vernon Sampson Freeman, Lumberton; mother-in-law, Idell Smith Jacobs, Bolton.

Doris leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Jacobs Howerton, Swansboro, Sharon Jacobs Murray and husband Rufus, Cedar Point; sons, Wilbert Jacobs and girlfriend Beth Peiffer, Jacksonville, Perry Jacobs and wife Evelyn, Stella, Dale Jacobs and wife Vicky, Greenville; grandchildren, Clark Howerton, Ashley Howerton, Wilmington, Christopher Jacobs, Jacksonville, Mariah Jacobs, Wilmington, Mason Jacobs, Stella, Sam and Matt Jacobs, Greenville. Special friends, Elizabeth Baggs and Betty Ann Rawls, Swansboro and care giver, Mary Hutchins, Jacksonville.

Doris was born on June 14, 1934, in Lumberton, where she grew up on a farm. Later she lived in Elizabeth City, Bolton, Wilmington and made Swansboro her home. She graduated from the Durham Institute of Barbering, Durham, and she was one of the first female barbers to graduate from that college in the early 70's.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at the First Baptist Church in Swansboro with the Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro.
