HARDY, Donna "Jane" (nee Walker)November 24, 1934 - St. Catharines, OntarioMay 27, 2017 - Calgary, AlbertaDonna "Jane" Hardy (nee Walker), age 82 of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on November 24, 1934 in St., Catharines, Ontario to the late Lloyd Walker and Donna Walker (nee Baum).Jane is survived by her dear husband Ronald R. Hardy whom she married on July 27, 1957. Together they raised their two children Drue Robinson (David, Kayla and Alyssa) and Jeff Hardy (Nancy Matthews). Jane is also survived by her sister, Lois Carriere (Chuck Quick) and her nephews Tony (Nancy) Carriere and Joey (Joanne) Carriere. She also leaves behind many loving family and friends.Playing golf and bridge as well as her family and friends, were some of the things that gave Jane joy. As a member of the Willow Park Golf Club she scored no less than four hole-in-ones! For several years after retirement, Jane and Ron would winter in Thousand Palms, California socializing and playing golf and cards with their fellow snowbirds. She enjoyed the time she had in this life and made many friends wherever life brought her.Jane attended St. Catharines Collegiate Institute and Vocational School and graduated in 1951 before commencing a career in office administration. Her career saw her working in a number of schools and office environments as her life took her from St. Catharines, to Los Angeles, California to Toronto and finally to Calgary where she lived for the past 50 plus years. Jane worked for 26 years at The Calgary Jewish Academy (formerly Calgary Hebrew School) from 1969 to 1995. She was an active member in the community and served with the Braeside Community Association as well as the recording secretary, corresponding secretary, vice-president, president and past-president of the Ladies Committee at Willow Park Golf Course. After retiring she volunteered at the Braeside Community Police Station (COPS) from 1996 through 2016.After Jane was diagnosed with cancer she took some time to reflect, and wanted to share the following words for all who knew her and loved her: "At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believed they will always travel by our side. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of our life. Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we don't realize that they vacated their seats! This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, good-byes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers... requiring that we give the best of ourselves. The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So we must live in the best way - forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty... we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.Thank you for being one of the passengers on my train!Have a very pleasant journey of life.........!I hope, I've been able to achieve even some of this in my lifetime, and that you will achieve similar goals in yours."In honour of Jane's wishes no formal funeral services will be held.
