Donald William Whyte Sr.1922 - 2016Donald William Whyte Sr., 93, of Birchwood, Wis., died Monday, May 30, 2016, from his home to heaven.He only missed one anniversary with his wife last year, but will spend their 72nd wedding anniversary with her in heaven.He was born on Oct. 23, 1922, in Kenosha, Wis., to Robert and Pansy Marguerite (Johnson) Whyte. Don graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha then entered the United States Marines and served during World War II as an aircraft mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was married to Ellen Will on July 20, 1944, in Kenosha. Don was Vice President of the manufacturing company - MacWhyte Corporation. He loved to build things, play cribbage, fish golf, travel and just spend time with his wife.Don is survived by their twins, daughter Ellen (Buzz McKowen) of Birchwood, Wis., and Donald Jr. of Kenosha, Wis.; a granddaughter Megan Benson Nightingale (Kirk Benson) of Minneapolis, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Kieran, Wynn, Kalli and Gaby; a brother, George "Dode" Whyte of Kenosha, Wis.; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Whyte; his parents, Robert and Pansy Marguerite Whyte; a brother, Robert Jr.; and two sisters, Mary and Jean.Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Birchwood, Wis., with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Church. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church in Birchwood, Wis. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyards Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI.A special thank you to his caregivers, particularly Kathy H., Shelly, Laurie, Jen, Becky and Karen for the kindness and love that they gave to Don. Thanks to friends Tucker Fee and Bob Beffa who made every morning special at morning coffee at the Café.
