Donald KarnsMingoDonald Lee Karns, age 80 of Mingo, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Donald L. Karns Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.comThe son of Charlie and Mildred (Evans) Karns, Don was born on November 27, 1936, in Thayer, Iowa. He graduated from Ellston High School. On August 12, 1989, he was united in marriage to Betty A. DeReus. He worked at Armstrong in Des Moines as a tire builder. Don was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church and the Armstrong Union. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty; children, Cheryl (Jim) Kaiser-Coe of Waukee, Paula (John) Van Horn of Waukee, Jon L. Karns of Mingo, and Raymond (Joanna) Karns of Dallas Center; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Boyd) Kale of Des Moines and a brother, Raymond Karns of Alaska. Preceding Don in death were his parents, a grandson, Dennis Kaiser, sisters, Betty and Dorthea and brothers, Willie, Ralph and Ronnie.
