Mr. Donald F. Czernik of Tawas City passed away Tuesday evening, June 7, 2016 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital, age 91. The son of the late Leon and Helen (Filipiak) Czernik, he was born on April 21, 1925 in St. Charles. Donald served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was retired from the State of Michigan Employment Service as a job specialist. Donald was a well-known woodworker and was an avid fisherman and hunter.On June 18, 1978 Donald married Barbara J. (Laspisa) and she survives his passing along with his three children, Barbara (Ken) Jubar of Holly, Allen (Terri) Czernik of Sebewaing and Kimberly Czernik of Flint; his former wife, Ethel N. Czernik; his step-children, Bradley (Marti) Meyers, Janice (Chris) White and Todd (Tina) Meyers; a step-daughter-in-law, Vickie Meyers; three grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Donald was also preceded in death by a step-son, Gary Meyers; a granddaughter, Kortni Meyers; and his two sisters, Virginia (Bob) Boettcher and Bernice Shuster.The funeral service will take place at noon on Friday, June 10 at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc., 201 W. Midland St., Bay City, 989-686-2291. Officiating will be Rev. Steven Anderson. Private interment with military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
