William "Don" Swann, 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away at home, surrounded by his immediate family, after a lengthy illness, on September 27, 2026. Born in western Kentucky in 1936, he attended Murray State University, received his bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University, and his master's from the University of Louisville, where he met the love of his life, Rande. He credited his time in the US Navy as among the best years of his life and took full advantage of being an "East Coast" sailor to travel into the New York City metroplex for live jazz at every opportunity. It launched a lifetime enthusiasm for the art and launched his extensive collection of jazz music and countless hours at live jazz concerts where he made acquaintance with many of jazz's most notable artists. Bird Lives! Don spent his life committed to the care and nurturing of his family, friends, and community. He will be equally remembered for his proud original ownership of his beloved 1967 Austin Healey BJ-8, his fandom of the University of Louisville's athletic programs, his love for all animals, and time spent in his flower gardens. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and loving a great party. He shared time volunteering in his church, community organizations, and finding jobs for parolee's so they could leave prison for a better life. Survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Rande, his daughters Nicole Swann and husband Mark Adams; Amy Swann and husband Matt Thompson, his grandchildren Luke and Savanna Latto, and his many very dear friends and family by choice, as well as his four spoiled cats: Tito Puente, Baby Groot, Chenille #1, and Miss Tilley. This always fun-loving and nurturing fellow will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
