Dixie Evelyn Vining HarrisonMonroe, LA - Services for Dixie Evelyn Vining Harrison, 89, will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe, LA., with the Rev. J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Epps Cemetery, Epps, LA.Dixie Evelyn Vining Harrison, 89, died after a long struggle with COPD on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Lake Charles, LA. She was born on April 28, 1928 in Darnell, LA to Michael and Stella Vining and grew up in the area of Pioneer, LA. She attended Louisiana Tech before beginning a teaching career that spanned over 30 years. In 1948 she married Sidney "Sam" Harrison and later lived with him in Occupied Japan before returning to the States to start a family. She lived in Monroe from 1963 until 2014 before moving to her daughter's home in Lake Charles. She was devoted to all of her family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. She is preceded in death by her husband, SFC Sidney L. "Sam" Harrison, (USA, RET); her son, Kenneth "Ken" Harrison; brothers, Robert Vining (Karen) and F. Michael Vining (Leona).Dixie is survived by her son, Colonel Robert "Bruce" Harrison, (USA, RET), and wife Doris LaDart; daughter, Dixie Ann Harrison Yorks; grandchildren, Robert "Bobby" Harrison, Jr., Jenny Oldham (Eric), Kelly Lipscomb (Vince), Ryan S. Harrison, Sarah Yorks, and Mollie Yorks; and great-grandchildren, Danielle, Trey, Stella, Harrison, Evelyn, Norah, Kyla, Phoenix, and Isaac; brothers, Mike Vining (Sammie), and Harry Vining, sisters, Dorothy Vining Clark (Glen), Joy Vining Ferrell and Mary Helen Vining Morgan.Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM, Monday, November 13, 2017, until the 1:00 PM service.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.comKilpatrick Funeral HomeMonroe, LA
