KINSTON - Dennis Alvin Bogey, 56, passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2014, at his home. He was an only child born on December 13, 1957, to the late Alvin Thomas Bogey and Janet Moore Bogey. He was previously employed as a Supervisor at Eastern Building Components in New Bern, N.C. Dennis was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest legacy in life is his two daughters, Mandy and Amy, along with his granddaughter, Alia, who he called his "Doodle." He lived to take care of his girls and loved them beyond words. He was a devoted grandfather who dedicated the last four years of his life to providing home daycare to Alia, which brought him great joy. He had many hobbies that brought him happiness for many years - fishing, carpentry, gardening, playing cards, telling jokes, singing karaoke, and cooking. He loved caring for his dogs and cats and treated them like his children. Dennis was a man who could light up any room with his laughter, quick wit, funny stories, jokes and magic tricks. He never met a stranger and was quick to do a good deed for anyone. Dennis is cherished by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Joy Rhodes Bogey; daughter Mandy Bogey; daughter Amy Bogey Becirovic and son-in-law, Edin Becirovic; and granddaughter, Alia Beth Becirovic. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Debra Rhodes Davenport and brother-in-law, Lee Davenport; brother-in-law, Ricky Rhodes and sister-in-law, Mary Rhodes. He is also survived by his nephew, Rick Rhodes and niece, Lizzie Rhodes. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Garner Funeral Home with Pastor Nelson Killingsworth officiating. Visitation will be held following the service. A private family burial will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a trust fund for his granddaughter, Alia Beth Becirovic, c/o Joy Bogey, Custodian, through State Employees Credit Union.
