Delores Jean KoenigAugust 29, 1926 - March 8, 2016Salem - Delores Jean Stoutenburg was born on August 29, 1926 in McMinnville, Oregon to Wilbur (Webb) and Bessie Stoutenburg. She attended Dayton High School where she excelled as an athlete and earned three varsity letters in volleyball. She was also crowned May Day Queen her junior year, 1944. Delores married Virgil Koenig in June 1946 and they made their first home in Ballston, Oregon. They soon moved to a farm east of Salem where they raised their four sons, Dan, Joe, Larry, and Jeff. Outside of the home, Delores worked at Aumsville Elementary School for many years and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with children. She later joined the staff at Turner Retirement Homes, relishing her role until she retired in 1989.Virgil and Delores moved to LaPine, Oregon where they enjoyed a few years of retirement before returning to the Willamette Valley to be closer to family. Delores was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She shared her love in many ways, not the least being her wonderful cooking. She was always an encourager and found personal, unique ways to touch those she loved.Delores is survived by sons Dan, Larry, and Jeff; brother Larry Stoutenburg; three daughters-in-law; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by husband Virgil Koenig, son Joe Koenig, sister Leona Martin, and brother Gary Stoutenburg. Viewing will be held on Friday, March 17, at 3 pm until 6 pm at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 11 am at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, followed by a graveside service at Hopewell Cemetery, Dayton, Oregon.Contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
