HOWE — Debra Diane Shirar, 55, of Howe, Ind., died on Monday, February 3, 2014, at her home. Ms. Shirar was born on January 10, 1959, in Clinton, Ind., to Earl and Louise (Blankenship) Shirar. Living most of her lifetime in LaGrange and Steuben counties, she moved to the area in 1969 from Marshall, Ind. Ms. Shirar was a graduate of Prairie Heights High School, Indiana State University and Indiana University. She was a member of the East Springfield United Methodist Church in rural LaGrange, Ind. For seven years she was a school teacher on the San Carlos Indian Reservation near Globe, Ariz. After returning to LaGrange, she became the head librarian at the LaGrange County Library for four years and then the Media Specialist with Central Noble School Corporation in Albion, Ind., the last twenty years. Surviving are her parents, Earl and Louise Shirar of Angola, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Mark Thompson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and two nieces, Emily and Claire Thompson, both at home. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Shirar in 1994. A memorial visitation and service will be held from noon until the service time at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, Ind. A committal service will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland, Ind. The Rev. James Bartlett will officiate the services.
