David Scott Hellenthal, 64, of Allegan, passed away on April 8, 2022. He was born to John and Donna R. Hellenthal on March 24, 1958.
He married Donna B. (Jacobs) Hellenthal in 1995 and they enjoyed 26 years of marriage, living primarily in West Michigan and spending one year living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Together Dave and Donna have one daughter, Megan Hellenthal (William Town). Dave is survived by his wife and daughter, along with siblings Ron (Diane) Hellenthal and Joann (Stuart) Jalving, step-mother Shirley Hellenthal, in-laws Bill and Nancy Jacobs, Karen (Sean) Curran, Kathy (Tom) Weerstra, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Dave attended West Ottawa High School, followed by service to his country from 1976-1980 in the United States Navy.
Prior to retiring, David served in two long-term career positions, including United Technologies Automotive and Standard Kitchens. When retired, until his health circumstance declined, he was passionate about serving others through his volunteer work with Hungry for Christ Food Ministries. His nickname there was "M.C" for "Mr. Clean". His most recent volunteer position there was keeping the floors and other areas of the warehouse sparkling. He took pride in it. For anyone who talked to Dave, his passion for his volunteer work was apparent and infectious!
Dave and Donna enjoyed camping and travel. During their many years together they enjoyed trips to Alaska, Canada, and several places throughout the United States. During more recent years, travels were closer to home.
Dave fought the good fight! He was first diagnosed with heart problems in 2011 which led to Congestive Heart Failure that was diagnosed in 2015. In July 2020 he had life-sustaining surgery where a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) was implanted. In time, Dave was listed as a heart transplant candidate, but passed away prior to that opportunity being realized. The LVAD provided Dave two additional years of life he wouldn't otherwise have had. He made the most of those two years. He recognized that each of us only has a certain number of days in our life and was prepared for his eternal home. He will be missed very much by those closest to him.
A memorial service at The River Church for 1:00pm on April 23, 2022, is planned, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 11:30am. Following the service, we invite you to join us for a luncheon at Hungry for Christ, 4565 135th, Hamilton, MI 49419.
