David Lee WalkerNaples, FLDavid L. Walker, 68, of Naples, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, after a courageous, valiant battle with brain cancer. David was born on February 14, 1948. Mr. Walker moved to Napies from Columbus, OH in 1975 to begin an incredibly successful teaching and coaching career at Naples High School. "Coach", as he was often referred, was the head girls' basketball coach for 33 years and retired in 2012 with 612 wins. Dave was inducted into two Hall of Fames in the state of Florida, the highly prestigious FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) Hall of Fame, and also the Court of Legends (Florida Association of Basketball Coaches) Hall of Fame. In addition to coaching basketball, he also coached football, JV boys' basketball and girls' golf. Dave taught math at Naples High School and was the math department chair when he retired from teaching in 2010.Dave was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many fishing trips to the Florida Keys, Alaska, and Michigan. After retirement in 2010, Dave traveled extensively and enjoyed his other hobbies, reading and cooking.David Walker leaves behind a beloved daughter, Tiffany Walker Sigal (Joshua) of Las Vegas, NV, an identical twin brother, Daniel B. Walker (Eileen) of Columbus, OH, and fiancee, Leann Burkholder of Naples, FL. Preceding him in death were his parents Robert and Jenny (June) Walker, and a younger brother Scott Walker (Andrea) in August 2015.Coach Walker has touched so many lives as a teacher, coach, brother, father, best friend, and partner. "Coach" will be deeply missed.A Celebration of Life and open house will be held at the Naples High School gymnasium on Sunday, February 26, from 4-7 PM.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research at www.
