Darlane Ellen Burke passed away on Sunday, November 4th, 2012 in Yuma, AZ surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was born on August 15, 1933 in Long Prairie, MN to Raymond & Olivia (Steuck) Bain. She grew up in Long Prairie and graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1951. She met Alden "Dean" Burke in 1950 and they were united in marriage on June 21, 1951 in Norfolk, Virginia. After Dean's discharge from Navy, they returned to Grand Forks, where they raised their three children, Debra, Dennis and Denice. Darlane was a homemaker and also worked in retail sales for a time. Dean and Darlane were "snowbirds" for a number of years, dividing their time between Grand Forks and Yuma. In 1997, they became full time Yumans. Darlane was a volunteer at YRMC for many years, where she worked at the front desk at the Corporate Center and later in the gift shop. Darlane had many hobbies during her life, some of which included ceramics, crosswords, slot machines and karaoke. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Alden "Dean" Burke of Yuma; her children, Debra (Thomas) Bougie of Grand Forks, Dennis (Marianne) Burke of Yuma; her brother, Dwain (Anna) Bain of Land 0' Lakes, FL; 7 grandchildren, Derek Bougie, Daniel Bougie both of Costa Mesa, CA, Danielle (Burke) De Board of Yuma, AZ, Lucas Schafer of East Grand Forks, MN; Ellen (Schafer) Olson of Thompson, ND; Jacob Schafer of Grand Forks, ND and Josh Schafer of Thompson, ND. She is survived by 8 great-grandchildren with the 9th one due this month and many nieces and nephews. Darlane was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Olivia Bain; her stepmother, Mildred Bain Perrish and her youngest daughter, Denice (Burke) Schafer.
