Giessel, Daniel F.Daniel F. Giessel, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 3, 2017. He was born on September 21, 1929, and raised by Frank and Rose (Wilke) Giessel in Shawano, where Dan attended school. He married Sylvia Koehler and together they lived in the Appleton area. Dan worked at Thilmany Pulp and Paper, retiring in 1985 after 33 years of employment. He enjoyed woodworking and golfing, and was known by his family as "Grandpa Jokes" because of his sense of humor. Dan is survived by his children: Patricia (James R. Sr.) Tank, Connie (Merlin "Joe") Bessette, Delmer Giessel, Deb (Jim) Meulemans, Barbara Giessel; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; his special friend, Betty Stellpflug, whom he lived with in Onalaska for the last 15 years, and all of her family; special friend of the family, Barbara Smith; many other family members and friends.Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, and a grandson, Colt Ringer.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 Columbia Ave., Freedom. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
