Daniel Aloysius CollinsAGE: 84 • WhitingDaniel Aloysius Collins, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, 84, of Whiting, passed away on May 12, 2017. Dan was born on December 30, 1932 to the late Eleanor (Murray) and Patrick Collins in Jersey City, where he was raised. After marrying Lorraine (Karol) Collins, his beloved wife of 59 years, they relocated to Bayonne where they raised their family.A graduate of Snyder High School, Dan spent four years in the U.S. Air Force before attending St. Peter's College. He retired from Irving Trust Company after a 30-year career on Wall Street, and went on to enjoy a second career as an Officer at the Hudson County Courthouse.Whether politics, religion, history, finance or current events, Dan's intellectual brilliance and genuine curiosity made him a stimulating conversationalist on any topic. Authentic, witty and fond of simple pleasures, he was happiest sipping Jameson, smoking a cigar, and rooting for his Fighting Irish. He also enjoyed many family beach vacations at the Jersey Shore and in the Carolinas.In addition to his devoted wife Lorraine, Dan is survived by five children, Daniel (Marilyn) of New Jersey, Kevin (Rochelle) of Georgia, Carol Aviles (Nelson) of Georgia, James (Dana) of New Jersey, and Brian (Andrea) of Nebraska; grandchildren Amanda, Daniel, Jenna, Kristen, Ethan, Spencer, and Emma; and great-grandchildren Penelope and Violet.A Memorial Service will be held on Tues., May 16 from 5-8PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dan's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans ( cst.dav.org).
