SPRING GROVE Dale Leroy Rohrbaugh, Sr., 90, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and F. Michael Klunk. He was the loving husband of the late Maybelle (Murphy) Rohrbaugh who passed away in July of 2013. Together they shared over 67 years of marriage. Dale was born on October 10, 1923, and was the son of the late Samuel and Cora (Grote) Rohrbaugh. He was employed by Borg Warner, now Johnson Controls, in York, for over 35 years prior to retiring. He was a longtime member of West York Church of the Brethren, taking a leadership role in the Brethren Food Bank where he and Maybelle served for over 12 years. Dale served in the U.S. Air Force during
World War II with the Fourth Combat Cargo Unit. Before his discharge, Dale was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with a single Oak Leaf Cluster. He stayed active in the local CBI (China Burma India Theatre) Chapter up until his death. In addition to his daughter Diane, Dale is survived by his daughter-in-law, Roberta E. Rohrbaugh and daughter Susanne Kline and husband, Ken, all of Spring Grove. Dale is also survived by nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased in death by his son, Dale L. Rohrbaugh, Jr. in December of 2013; and his siblings, Samuel Rohrbaugh, George Rohrbaugh, Velma (Rohrbaugh) Bortner, Saranda (Rohrbaugh) Bortner, and Cora (Rohrbaugh) Thoman. Dale was an accomplished gardener and horticulturist, beautifully landscaping his home. Dale was also a member of the Susquehanna Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. He enjoyed needlepoint in the wintertime and created beautiful heirloom Christmas Stockings for his entire family. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at West York Church of the Brethren, 5101 Darlington Road, York, PA 17408, with the Rev. Greg Jones and the Rev. Douglas Miller officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife following the service at Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Union Cemetery. Viewings will be held on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin- Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
